Whatcha been up to?

Just wondering...haven't seen you here much lately.

But yet she posted several times in the Bo thread. Maybe she is having some identity issues.

Dudes, y'all, I just needed my space, man, you know?

Thanks for thinking of me!

I have been pretty busy with school stuff. I am trying to plan out some things this summer to make the transition easier come August, and I have a bunch to do! I have been going out to school most days for a couple of hours. The principal is there, too, with his two sons (5 and 3) and Christopher goes to play with them in the gym. What better environment for a three-year-old boy than a big old empty gym and a rack full of basketballs? Mary Margaret is also very helpful in the "pulling things off of shelves" department.

AND...I have vacuumed TWICE this week! What is happening? Yesterday my New Mom Friend came over with her kids and she's a really anal (her words) housekeeper, so I tried to make it look presentable...tried and failed, pretty much, but...it's the thought that counts?

Plus, today has been Day Of Endless Laundry. On our way out the door to Mass this morning (trying to get back in the habit of going to daily Mass - it makes such a difference in my whole day), Christopher decided to experiment with putting half a roll of TP in the potty. So, we couldn't go swimming this morning as planned, because I had to use EVERY TOWEL IN THE HOUSE to staunch the overflow. At least it happened in the kids' bathroom, which has linoleum and hardwood floors in his bedroom - our bathroom has CARPET and would have been the height of grossossity. So, anyway, I ended up doing SEVEN LOADS OF LAUNDRY today - three loads of towels, the sheets from his bed and the other bed in his room (because they were hanging off the bed a little bit when it happened) - plus the two loads I already needed to do today.

Whew!

Anyway...thanks for asking!

Oh, and I am also trying to practice piano an hour each day this week because I have to sub for our organist on Sunday and I don't want to screw up any more than the bare minimum. The last time I subbed for him (and we have a FABULOUS organist) was two years ago, and I just played the cheesy electric piano because I was scared to try the organ. Well, I couldn't hear myself at all over the congregation singing, and I kept messing up. A famly friend came over afterwards and said, "Well, you sing better than you play." I'm sure he thought that was a compliment. Or maybe that meant, "I thought your singing was bad, but that piano was really bad!"

ANYway...so, this Sunday, I'm going for the organ, because it is LOUD. But that means my mistakes will also be LOUD...

What a day you've had.

Dorian! I'm sure you will do just fine at Mass this weekend. I think we are always much harder on ourselves than we should be. What hymns are you singing this weekend? We are doing:
Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
Like A Shepherd
Taste & See (Hurd... not Moore)
God of Our Fathers

Just thought it'd be fun to see if we have the same music planned.

I love going to Daily Mass, glad you're getting back into it. Although, we seem to be flip flopping, because I have gotten slack about it lately.

We're singing:

God of Our Fathers (Ding!)
Um...something. Can't remember. It's set to the Tallis Canon.
Rejoice, the Lord is King (which has a funky left hand)
Eternal Father, Strong to Save
America the Beautiful

We likes them patriotic hymns.

Just that I can find my way back if I get lost.

You know what drove me crazy a couple of years ago? Our chorale sang for a benefit at the Navy School. We sang, "Eternal Father," but our director only wanted us to do three verses. So we sang the first, second, and fourth verse - left out the one that talks about the Holy Spirit, and then ended up with, "O, Trinity of Love and Power" or whatever...point being, we sang the verse about the Trinity, but we left out one of the persons of the Trinity...

(crickets chirping)

(is there an echo in here?)

(chirp chirp)

Yeah, so maybe I was the only person who cared about that...

So, Dorian, I was sitting in church yesterday during Mass, wondering how you fared with the organ?

You are so nice to remember that!

It went pretty well. Everyone said I did a good job, although I know I was nowhere near as good as our regular organist. That's okay - I'm just the "sub." I didn't use the pedals at all, as I am so darned short (and uncoordinated) that it will take me a while to learn how to do that. But I did monkey around with the stops a bit to make things sound appropriate. And I cranked it up, baby, for "America, the Beautiful" at the recessional, because I knew people would really be singing that - and they did! Although Matthew told me it was "really, really loud," I stand by my decision. But I won't be playing anything else that loud in the near future...
